Johore Adventure

December 29, 2011

Asa, Steve and I took the kids on a round trip to Malaysia today. We checked out the new Premium Outlets and took the kids to Water Zuu, a large pet shop full of exotic pets. They enjoyed getting to hold sugar gliders.
It was a fun day. Most unusual for Asa and I to be out of our comfort zone but we survived!

Happy (& Lucky) End

December 6, 2011

Eve and I had a terrific time together. All that food and shopping wasn’t half bad too. It was lovely to not have to contend with Art Outreach and work for 72 hours (ok, there was the odd email or 20…).
On our flight home, the airline (Hong Kong Air) gave out fortune cookies! Rather strange, but hey… Who doesn’t enjoy a cutesy gimmick? Eve wasn’t too pleased that she might have to change her hairdo. I was thrilled to get an added boost for a big day at work tomorrow. I’m glad we took a break together.
More please!

Airport Adventures

December 6, 2011

Eve and I enjoyed the last couple of hours at the airport looking for last minute buys. I was most amused (and horrified) by the jumbo bags of vacuum sealed little packets of chicken feet and duck kidneys! Oh and obviously all that eating didn’t do much for Eve. See evidence below.

Last Meal

Um, we don’t like airplane food doesn’t quite explain this fully…

From 2 to 5

Our bags multiplied. Always a good sign.

CNY Shopping Begins

December 5, 2011

It’s 7 weeks to Chinese New Year (scary). We stocked up on: regular and liver sausages, preserved eggs and red packets. Where best but HK!

Authentic HK Breakfast?

December 5, 2011

On Uncle Pete’s recommendation, Eve and I checked out a hole-in-the-wall eatery for breakfast. He highly recommended the corned beef sandwiches (with eggs and without). After ordering those as well as a bowl of noodles for good measure, the waitress tells us we should be ordering the “fresh beef sandwich”. In true Singaporean glutton fashion, we of course told her to “bring it on”. What we didn’t anticipate was her rather fierce admonishments not to waste food.. So eve had to resort to hiding pieces of bread in her pocket! We managed to smuggle a couple of slices of bread away with us. It was quite an adventure… At least for us.

No Way

What we didn’t have at dinner.

Blogging Strategy

December 4, 2011

I thought I’d best post some non food blog entries to mitigate all the food focused blogging, but Eve called my bluff. Sigh. Hey – we’re Singaporean… It’s all about the national pastimes of eating and shopping! As the saying goes: You can take the girl out of Singapore.. It’s so much fun to be here with my favourite partner in crime!

Cabs and Comfy Weather

December 4, 2011

Getting around by taxis is much easier here than in Singapore. Taxis are plentiful, cheap and the traffic seems better than back home.
I love the weather. It’s such a nice respite from the heat and humidity. Must make the most of it on our last day tomorrow.
