From 2 to 5

Our bags multiplied. Always a good sign.

Doing Damage

December 3, 2011

The post lunch workout: 5 pairs of shoes, 2 blouses, 1 skirt, 3 pairs of shorts, and other assorted baubles… Mostly Eve’s loot… I need to catch up.

Open 24 Hours

May 1, 2011

I love stores that stay open all night! Just did a spot of IT shopping at Challenger. Love love late night shopping… I think it’s a Singaporean thing!

Tools of The Trade

February 10, 2011

Mom and I had a marvelous time at ToTT. A huge new store with kitchenware stocked to the rafters. Wonderland. I’m glad she didn’t buy another frying pan (she has 10).

Littered With Books

January 8, 2011

We discovered a new bookshop today: Littered With Books. It occupies a shophouse on Duxton Road. It’s charming but the collection isn’t as critical as that of Books Actually. We ended up going to Books Actually and between the two stores, I’m pleased with the haul. My favourite retail therapy is definitely book shopping.

Shopping at SAM

November 5, 2010

We had a girls afternoon out. Sophie and I joined Asa, her Mom, Quinn, Carson and Carson’s friend, Emma for lunch at the Singapore Art Museum. We enjoyed checking out the latest range of souvenirs from SAM that are designed by local artists. I bought pins, stationary, and Asa and I both bought a fun tote bag designed by Justin Lee. The “Double Happiness Headphones” are brilliant!

Hair Therapy

September 10, 2010

Spent the afternoon shopping with the girls. We needed some time together after such a busy week. We also did our hair! Pretty Hair = Happy Girls!

Booster Mom

August 18, 2010

I’ve always confessed to being a serial volunteer… and today marks my first day in another volunteer position. This time as a “Booster Mom”. The Boosters is a parent organization much like the PTA, but one that exclusively supports the High School with particular focus on athletics and activities. The Booster Booth is a great source of funds for the Boosters as it stocks High School uniforms, stationary and SAS design items. The booth is smack in the middle of the High School’s “town center” and is an excellent vantage point for prying parents. I pulled my first shift as a booth volunteer today, and was amused at the range of kids I got to meet. I was “awarded” my slot in the booth as a “surprise gift” as my PTA friends secretly signed me up 2 years ago on what is a notoriously long list!! How do I politely say that I’ve never harboured a desire to be in retail… unless you count my love for shopping. Well, I figure I’d better behave and volunteer for a bit before I can magnanimously give up my shift to one of the many desperate Moms who are dying to work the booth. Um, its not like I don’t have a way to spy on my kids. Being PTA President is about as good as it gets by way of being the nosiest  Mom on campus! Sarah took this photo. She was very amused. Don’t think she’s seen me “serve” anyone before…much less snotty teens. My bright and cheery “May I help you” line didn’t fool her for one second.

She’s Geared-Up!

August 8, 2010

Sarah is ready to start High School with her new macbook pro. We went shopping earlier and she seems very pleased. We’ll get it souped-up on Tuesday. All these milestones don’t really sit well with me. I don’t know how I’ll handle shopping for all her college gear in 4 years! : (

Survived Sim Lim!

August 5, 2010

I decided to invite S&S to join me on my Sim Lim adventure today. Our foray into Singapore’s electronics/tech nerve center didn’t start off so well. Tan asked us “which Sim Lim” we were headed to, and I was completely boggled. I didn’t know there were 2 Sim Lims! So I placed call #1 to my new mac guru/pal and he sorted us out (it’s “Square” not “Towers”). We were completely dazed by the warren of shops. They all looked alike. It’s also 90% men and 100% tech geeks there. The 3 of us kinda stood out… I clutched my print out of instructions and prices (from the mac dude) for dear life as we looked for #04-19. Sarah and I were confused by the layout of the stores. The unit numbers weren’t sequential! It made for a more challenging quest. We finally found the software we were looking for, but not before I placed call #2; apparently when buying certain software, the “ram” on your laptop matters – so I had to call and ask mac-dude for more advice! It was off to safer ground after Sim Lim as we decided that Funan was familiar territory and the best place to buy a printer and stationary. I’m thrilled that I can cross this off my list! Surviving Sim Lim is a cinch (if you have a techie on call)!
