Sophie’s Christmas Surprise

A Treat!

November 28, 2011

Credit Suisse managed to get a couple of tickets to the launch of Lee Kuan Yew’s new book. I was so excited to be able to attend the launch. He’s been such an idol/hero of mine since I was a kid. I’ve only seen him in person a couple of times.. was once introduced very briefly to him and i got to shake his hand – I was quite overcome! We were treated to an unexpected Q&A session this evening as he felt up to it after his speech. It wasn’t part of the program and everyone in the auditorium was thrilled. He’s so frail now, but his mind is still razor sharp. He’s simply tremendous.

Small Comforts

November 3, 2011

It’s been a long, awful day .. Actually, it’s been a long week.
I’m grateful for sweet and supportive friends – both at work and outside of work.

New “Pets”

September 23, 2011

Bought a couple of toys for the kids. Sophie adores her pet butterfly. It responds to taps on the lid and sides. It’s pretty neat. She’s agonizing over a name for it. Sarah named her stuffed toy stem cell Rectus Femoris (?). She also loves her mushy “brain”. Glad they still enjoy toys.

Happiness Is …

… A box of my favourite treats from Paris! Big thanks to Eric.
It’s been a long week.. I’m so glad tomorrow is the last day of work for the week. Macarons are delectable little balms to my blight.

Treat!

July 18, 2011

Steve and Asa treated me to a wonderful birthday dinner on Saturday. Being in Luke’s Oyster Bar & Chophouse felt like we were in Manhattan. The food was delicious and I discovered a yummy new treat: stout milkshake – strange but irresistible! I was utterly spoilt with a gift of a gorgeous notebook thats perfect for work too. These guys are too much! Thank you.

Happy Kid

July 15, 2011

Sophie was treated to Harry Potter this evening. Look how happy she is!! Big thanks to the Tuckers. Sarah watched the midnight showing with her grandma in Connecticut.
I remember when J and I had to take Sarah to the Harry Potter movies. I even remember buying her the first novel when she was 7. This is the last movie in the series and the first time we aren’t watching it together. What a strange milestone. It’s hard to grow up with your kids. Now who will watch Harry Potter with me?

More Tucker Treats!

June 20, 2011

Whenever the Tuckers travel, we are the lucky beneficiaries of their shopping abroad. I used to think I was good at buying gifts till I met Asa. The woman is ridiculously adept at ferreting out the most perfect pieces of bespoke whimsy! We all received treats, but my stash is the best! A set of Sharpie markers (can’t get these babies in Singapore!), stationary, and other Mae-esque goodies. We’re utterly spoilt. What I am most tickled by is a guide to the Masters of Western Art. There must be a way to rip this off and produce a local “tweaked” version – a guide to the Pioneers of the Nanyang Style? Gonna go consult my attorney to see how much I’d be violating intellectual property rights!

It’s felt like I have not even had time to catch my breath these last few months. The last fortnight has been especially grueling. I still have a ton to wade through before I get some downtime. I’m calling a moratorium on work for the weekend though. I’ve had it. I’m not setting my alarm clock for tomorrow morning and I’m taking some much needed reading therapy to bed and will stay in bed and read to my heart’s content tomorrow. I’ve missed reading for hours in bed. Need to restore my equilibrium. Going to dive into my favs tonight (… kinda sad that I’m so darn excited about getting in some reading).
